The Grandstanders Podcast - 15 October 2011

'Like it or not, we are here. Like it or not here we are.....to share, enlighten, edify and educate!' That's how Craig introduces the show at least...and it's true! The Grandstanders are back again this week - rain, hail or shine (or in the case of our office in Mitcham, internet or no internet!)

Kicking us off, Jane's over-whelming experience of junior sports coaching. Are the pressures of competition too much for our youngsters? Jane explores (experientially) the best way for coaches and parents to deal with trying games......

Turning the spotlight onto Craig also.....he is having trouble sleeping. When it's time to rest, Craig's body is ready to switch off but his mind is still going at a million miles per hour. Some very practical 'how to sleep well' tips from both Jane and our listener.....find out what 'sleep hygiene' is!

Special guest, Aussie long distance swimmer Melissa Gorman (qualifier for the London Olympics), chats to us about how she 'fell' into the sport. She shares her typical training schedule and what goes on inside her head during her two-hour 10km races. This upbeat interview is sure motivation for those of us feeling lazy, or procrastinating from getting out and exercising!

Also this week, a deeper discussion on mind-chatter and how we as a society receive compliments. Reasons why we might down-play our strengths and deflect attention from ourselves. Have you ever stopped to consider how youchannel the compliments you receive?

On top of all this, talk of the MotoGP, how to get through a workout when your head begs you to quit...and answers to listener questions en masse.
